Love Letters From ON High: Why I Am a Christian, Part 24

by | Apr 10, 2020 | Bible, Holy Spirit, Love, Why I am a Christian

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16, KJV)

I used to teach children about story writing. I would give them two to three options of topics, and once they were done, everyone had their own story. However, if I had put all their stories in a book, that book would not be in harmony, as each child had differing interests, talents and writing styles.

Now imagine the authors of the Bible. The Bible was written over a fifteen hundred year span by more than 40 authors from different countries, and most of them had never seen what the others had written.

All kinds of people wrote the individual parts under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Kings, peasants, fishermen, statesmen, musicians, shepherds, tax collectors, military leaders, poets…

They wrote their parts in different places. Moses wrote his in the wilderness. Paul wrote inside prison walls. Jeremiah was in a dungeon. Luke wrote while he was traveling, my kind of man. John wrote in exile on an island named Patmos.

These parts were all written at different times and on three continents: Asia, Africa and Europe. They was written in three languages: Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.
Every one of these authors had a different writing style. Some wrote in poetry, others in historical narrative, still others in songs, allegories, romance, parables, personal correspondence, prophecy, biography, satire, memoirs, etc.
The Bible addresses hundreds of controversial subjects, like marriage, divorce, remarriage, adultery, lying, nature and revelation of God; but the most important aspect described in the Bible is the One, true, living God.

Although the Bible contains many books from many authors, it is also one book. Unlike my children who wrote stories, even though most of the Bible as authors never saw the writing of others, the Bible is in total harmony.

Our Heavenly Father wanted us to know that He loves us. He is not a dictator. Rather, he is a loving Father, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, NIV)

Interestingly enough, when we ask the Holy Spirit to open our mind when reading the Bible, His word comes alive. It speaks directly to us. Anyone can understand the Bible through the inspiration of God’s Holy Spirit. Those who read it every day know that what we read in the Bible is love messages from the Most High.

Try it out. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your mind and to guide you through the Bible. It will change your life. Wow!
