What’s Eating You Up?

“‘Oh, my lord, what shall we do?’ The servant asked. ‘Don’t be afraid,’ the prophet answered. ‘Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ And Elisha prayed, ‘O LORD, open his eyes so he may see.’ Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” (2 Kings 6:15-17 NIV)

Have you ever prayed to God to open your eyes so that you could see with your own eyes the spiritual warfare that is happening around you?

It is quite an eye-opener, believe me!

My favourite part is to look at those who are bold in Christ through spiritually-opened eyes. They radiate love towards anyone who comes in contact with them. There is no malice, and unforgiveness is a word of the past. These heroes of the faith radiate a light beyond this world. Not only that, they are also surrounded by angels of light who stand by them, giving them that inner boldness through Christ. No wonder these people are always smiling! They will never see anything but God’s victory, even though the angry one (the devil) will ineffectively try to throw anything he has on their way to stop them! What do they have to lose?

“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” (Phil 1:21 NIV)

If for some reason they do lose their lives, which cannot happen unless it is part of God’s plan, they leave a world of pain behind and are welcomed with open arms into the residence where our Lord and Master resides: Jesus Christ Himself! They are the ones who are aware that there is a spiritual struggle going on and nothing will deter them from bringing the flag of victory forth to others through Christ!

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Eph 6:12 NIV)

However, whether believers or atheists, those who do not pay close attention to God’s Holy Spirit or His Word don’t come through as well. Whoever gives in to temptation opens the doors of his/her heart wide to the evil one’s influence!  Jesus is clear on this:

“When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.” (Matt 12:43-45 NIV)

If Jesus does not fill our hearts, someone less desirable will take over. Oh, you will think you are in control of your life, but in all reality you have become a slave to someone who does not want you to know he even exists!

Looking at these poor people with opened spiritual eyes will send shivers through your body! The demons that control them have parts of their existence sticking out of these people and believe me, they are hideous! Some demons have the heads of their victim completely enveloped in their mouth so that they cannot see. Others are clinging to both of their ears, whispering hatred and unforgiveness towards those who have hurt them. Some of these victims manifest physical ailments as well, as both the spiritual and the physical are interconnected. Every one of these are affected differently, but what separates them from the first group is that they cannot discern God’s will in their lives and they do not personally know the one who is called the Savior of this world.

Oh, if they could only see what was really eating them up! The fear of the Lord is non-existent in their lives, and the price for their so-called freedom is an eternity void of love and of the presence of the Lord!

“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matt 10:28 NIV)

I don’t mean to scare any of you. If you doubt these words, please take the time to honestly ask God to open your spiritual eyes. You will never be the same again!

“‘Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened.’ But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.” (1 Peter 3:14-15 NIV)

What’s that tail sticking out of your throat? Maybe it is time that we ask God’s help to show us the unnecessary luggage that we are carrying around and that is hindering us from growing closer to Him!

“Examine your motives, test your heart!” (1 Cor 11:28 The Message)

Who is filling your heart?
