“Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight.”
(Proverbs 12:22 ESV)
“There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.”
(Proverbs 6:16-19 ESV)
“A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will perish.”
(Proverbs 19:9 ESV)
I was watching a detective tv show yesterday. They were protecting a group of school kids from a potential bomber. While trying to keep the kids occupied, they wrote a song. It was about “white lies.”
As a kid, I remember “fibbing” to dad mostly. Sometimes, mom. That was also called a white lie. It doesn’t matter if you call it a white lie or just a lie. A lie is a lie is a lie. And wrong in the eyes of God.
Google defines a lie as “to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive.”
How many times a day do you stretch the truth to someone? How many times do you outright lie to someone? What about lying to someone to protect their feelings? You tell someone you like their (fill in the blank) when you really don’t. That’s a lie.
I will tell you right now that God doesn’t like us to lie. He wants us to be truthful and respective. God will forgive you when you lie if you repent, but why keep lying? It only gets you into trouble. One lie leads to another and another and another. It is so much easier to keep the truth straight than it is to lie. So just tell the truth and let it go.
Have a great day, everyone.
