Lantana Always Grows Back

Through many scratches and lots of sweat, I learnt something a long time ago.

Let me explain… I grew up on a banana plantation where my whole family was used to plenty of physical work. Each year we passed through several months, sometimes longer of extreme fire danger. Given the fact that our particular property was surrounded by bush on at least 50% of the boundary line, keeping a clear firebreak was essential.

So each year during the winter months we would spend what seemed like days in the life of a young teenager clearing these essential breaks.

I noticed something about the process. Every time we cleared the fire breaks lantana – a prickly introduced species – had grown back over much of the cleared space. Often it had overgrown what had been cutback the previous year, and thus it required much more energy to get rid of it.

Does the same go for your life? When you successfully get rid of the evil in your life, does it grow back more quickly when left unattended?

Let me offer a lesson from the lantana. It is in being vigilant about evil in your life that the re-growth is not only kept under control, but continually eradicated.

Jesus Christ can clear away any overgrown debris in your life – permanently – if you will only ask and allow Him!

“I will give you a new heart… I will cleanse away your sins.” Ezekiel 36:26,29
