High and Lifted Up

by | Jun 2, 1999 | Poem, Praise, Worship

High and lifted up, Lord,
I see You above the heavens and the earth
Flanked with Your angelic messengers
To herald in the age of reconciliation,
Forgiveness and relief
From this terrible evil on the earth.
Men fight and rival, Lord,
And go to war against each other
And against You, my God.

High and lifted up, You are Lord.
Although all the powers of earth and hell
Prevail against You, Lord,
They shall not break Your covenant with us,
Your covenant of love and peace
That breaks the yokes and sets the captives free.

Your Hand brings mercy, Father,
And healing of the sick and the lame
And none are turned away — none.
You are high and lifted up, Father.

hrough Your son, You bent down
And kissed us, Lord.
You kissed us and told us
We are Your own, Your very own,
Though You are high and lifted up.

Father, what can we say to this?
What can we do?
We will bow down and worship You.
We will run with glad hearts
To tell others about You —
About Your mercy and Your love,
Though You are high and lifted up
And surrounded by angels.
