Does Jesus Love the Unlovable?

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.

(1 John 4:7 ESV)

I was in Belleville the other day. I saw a young man sitting on the curb waiting for a handout. My heart went out to him. I was on the wrong side of the intersection to help him. Otherwise I probably would have given him a few dollars.

It makes me wonder about the people wanting help. Most of them are young. Are they unable to work or do they just choose to beg instead?

I have gotten to know a homeless young man that lives here. He is a  schizophrenic. He doesn’t want handouts. He is willing to do chores for some money. But he doesn’t want a permanent home or job. Several of us has tried to help him get disability and an apartment in public housing.

I have had discussions about Jesus with this young man. He believes Jesus died for our sins. But some of his ideas about the Bible are out there. He doesn’t believe it.

Now a question for you. Does Jesus still love him if he doesn’t believe the Bible is anything more than a collection of fictional stories? I know, stupid question. Of course Jesus still loves him. Jesus loves all of us. He loves us unconditionally. He even loves this homeless man who yells at the voices in his head.

Next time you think you are unloved or unlovable, think again. Jesus loves you and so do I.

Have a wonderful day.
