I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the Lord.

(Psalm 118:17 ESV)

And everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?

(John 11:26 ESV)

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

(Revelation 21:4 ESV)

A year or so ago I was having some issues. My heart was acting up. After being treated in the emergency room, I was admitted. In the room, my blood pressure kept dropping. I watched the monitor as it went lower and lower. The thought crossed my mind, “Is this what it feels like to die?”

Obviously, I did not die. But that moment was so peaceful and calm. Normal hospital noises faded into the background.

I know not every death is peaceful. Having once been an EMT, I have seen some things no one should ever see. Those deaths were not peaceful. I have watched people in nursing homes I used to work in, pass away. Most of them were peaceful.

I have wondered why some deaths are peaceful and some not so much. God explained it to me. It’s all in the way they lived. That made sense to me. The one death that I vividly remember even though I heard it second hand, was a very sweet lady in the nursing home. Her granddaughter told me her last words were, “Look how beautiful my new home is.” Then she went peacefully home to be with God. That’s how I want to go when the time is right. I want to go out rejoicing. I want to go home in peace.

God honors our wishes. Mom wanted to go peacefully. She did. She was getting ready for breakfast when she felt dizzy. The aide went to get the nurse. She was gone by the time they got back. So when my times comes, I want to go peacefully and quickly. No lingering. I want to see my new home when it’s my time.

Have a great day, everyone.
