You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

“You never know what you have until it’s gone.” I have heard that sentence many times. And I believe it.

Yesterday evening the power went out. After calling the power company and getting “not sure why, not sure how long, not sure when….” That answer was clear as mud. But one thing happened that just doesn’t happen very often anymore. Neighbors congregated on my front porch. We chatted and laughed. God sent us a nice cool breeze. Parents were out playing with their kids. 

God gave me some nice neighbors. One lady who is maybe in her 30s and disabled came and sat with me. Another neighbor who is going to be 60 soon came over too. We had a nice chat as we watched the power truck keep circling the block. I think God did that so we all would reconnect again. This life gets so busy that we barely take time to even say hi to others. 

I think God causes malfunctions to remind us that we need each other. We were not meant to be alone all the time. I am getting older. I am closer to the end of my life. And that is alright. I have a lot to be thankful for. I have had good times and not-so-good times. I have made some wonderful friends and have had some not-so-wonderful friends. But I have learned something from each of them, good or bad.

But the best thing I have learned is that God is always with me. He protects, encourages, provides, heals, and does anything else I may need. He loves me just as much as He loves you.

Take a minute to stop and smell the roses. Then thank God for the roses. Give thanks for the little things in life.
