So Many Lonely People

“Therefore encourage one another and bus each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (1 These 5:11, NIV)

“Hi! How are you?”

“I am fine. Thank you.”

Are we always telling the truth?

Although there are some people who love to tell everyone their troubles, there are also many who don’t like to share their problems with others. Why depress them? They have their own things to deal with. As a result, when you see the people sitting around you in church, you have to wonder how many of them are suffering. They look normal and they seem fine, but some have hidden problems: serious illnesses, loss of jobs, death of a loved one, divorce…And the list could go on. What they need is a real friend, someone who cares for them, someone who will listen. This would change their lives for the better.

This can be done in person, it can also be done over the Internet. My wife has tried to encourage someone on the other side of the country. It has made a huge difference to both of them. Eventually my wife had the opportunity to meet this person. It was a tearful meeting for both as she called my wife her soulmate.

What can we do with people who are hurting, but don’t want to share? Show them you care. Try to see them at church, contact them via internet, or do whatever is required to be a listening ear, to open the door for them to share with you. Be a friend and care, and it will make a huge difference in their lives.

“Hi! How are you?”

“I feel terrible!”

“I am so sorry. I hope your day will be better. Bye!!”

Are we encouragers? Or are we indifferent to those who are hurting?

“Hey, I have time. Can I help you?”

In His love,
