No Jet Lag!

My heart was pounding with excitement as I contemplated what I would write today. My Heavenly Father had come through big time, and I was looking forward to sharing this blessing with the world. Only one problem: I didn’t know which Bible verse to choose. But why worry? I asked my Heavenly Father and He led me in my Bible to:

“The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.” 1 Timothy 1:14 (NIV)

This verse summarized our recent experience in Belgium. We were there for final goodbyes and a funeral; but wherever we went, we experienced love. People genuinely went out of their way to help us. I still vividly remember being in Leuven, looking at a map with my wife. We couldn’t make any sense out of the directions to an attraction when suddenly, a young man put his head between ours. My wife thought it was our son, because the young man was obviously a university student; but when he spoke, she realized her mistake. This student helped us find the way to that attraction. He didn’t even know my mother had passed away, but he showed us love.

Faith was also clearly demonstrated. My mom passed away in peace, knowing where she was headed. The deacon who led the funeral also demonstrated a lot of faith, as well as the undertaker who spread my mom’s ashes. He spoke with us for a long time afterwards and we were comforted.

We then found ourselves heading back to North America, back home. As my thoughts were elsewhere, one thing I didn’t even think about was jet lag, a condition that always interferes with my sleep for the first couple of weeks after returning from Europe.

I went back to work the day after our return fully rested, never even giving my usual nemesis a passing thought. I had an ordinary day, just like any other. But it shouldn’t have been that way! It wasn’t until a few days later that it occurred to me: neither myself nor my wife had any consequences from our trip. Our Heavenly Father had come big time for us.

That’s when I heard from my Heavenly Father: “It is my gift to you.”

Wow!

It makes sense. Our Father, who can heal, who can do anything, is certainly bigger than jet lag!

“God can do anything, you know-far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.” Ephesians 3:20 (MSG)

Are you tired? Feeling deflated? Do you feel you need more rest? I know the One who can help you: “Come to me, all who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (GW) Nothing is too difficult for our loving Father!
