Seeing God Everywhere

by | Oct 31, 2025 | Creation, Knowing God

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.  Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.

(Psalm 19:1–2 NIV)

A little boy came to his older sister with a deep question that had been stirring in his heart. “Susie, can anybody ever really see God?”

“Of course not, silly,” she said. “God lives way up in heaven — nobody can see him.”

A few days later, he asked his mother the same question, “Can anybody ever really see God?”  His mother smiled kindly and said, “Well, not really. God is a Spirit, and he lives in our hearts. We can feel his presence, but we can’t actually see him.”

The question still lingered in the boy’s mind.  Sometime later, he went on a fishing trip with his grandfather — a godly man known for his quiet wisdom. It had been a perfect day:  the air was still, the water was calm, and their time together was filled with laughter. As evening came, the sky began to glow with the colors of a magnificent sunset.  The old man put down his fishing pole and gazed at the horizon, his face with a look of deep peace and joy.

The little boy watched him for a long time, then finally spoke in a hushed voice. “Granddad, I wasn’t going to ask anybody else, but… can anybody ever really see God?”

For a moment, the old man said nothing. Then, without taking his eyes off the sky, he answered softly, “Son… it’s getting so I can’t see anything else.”

The psalmist wrote, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.  Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.” (Psalm 19:1-2 NIV)

The more we walk with God, the more clearly we begin to see him — in sunsets, in laughter, in kindness, in mercy. His fingerprints are everywhere for those who have eyes to see.  I long for the day when, like that old grandfather, I can see nothing else — when everywhere I look, I see only God.

Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to see you in all things — in the beauty of creation, in the people around me, and in the quiet moments of each day. Help me grow so close to you that your presence fills my vision and guides my every step.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
