As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
(Psalm 103:12)
I once heard a story about a Rolls-Royce owner that may or may not be true — but either way, it’s too good not to share.
A wealthy gentleman took his prized Rolls-Royce on a trip through Europe. While driving in the French countryside, the unthinkable happened: his car broke down. He called the Rolls-Royce factory in England and explained the situation. Without hesitation, the company flew a mechanic by private jet to his location, fully equipped to make the repair.
The car was fixed with precision and class, and the grateful owner continued his journey. Months later, he realized he had never received a bill. Curious, he asked his secretary to contact the company.
Their response came promptly and politely: “We have no record or recollection of any Rolls-Royce ever breaking down in France.”
That is exactly what grace looks like. It’s a beautiful picture of what God does for us when we turn to him in repentance. While we may remember every flaw and stumble in vivid detail, God chooses not to.
Once we’ve been forgiven, God doesn’t send reminders, hang guilt over our heads, or keep a file folder on us. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, our sin isn’t just covered — it’s erased. Not just from the record books, but from his very memory.
But here’s the hard part: we often struggle more to forgive ourselves than God does. Even after we’ve confessed, repented, and been washed clean, we keep digging up the past and letting it weigh us down. But when God says he remembers our sins no more (Hebrews 8:12), he means it. His forgiveness isn’t partial or temporary — it’s complete.
Psalm 103:12 reminds us that our sins have been removed “as far as the east is from the west.” That’s not a distance you can measure. It’s God’s way of saying: Gone. Forever. Not just out of sight, but out of existence.
So today, if you’re still carrying guilt for what God has already forgiven, let it go. Trust His mercy. Accept His grace. And live in the peace that only God’s complete forgiveness can bring.
Prayer: Father, thank you for your mercy that forgives and forgets. Help me to stop clinging to past guilt and to accept your grace that fills me with peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
