“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
(John 8:32 ESV)
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
(2 Timothy 2:15 ESV)
According to Oxford Languages, truth “means a fact or belief that is accepted as true.” Another definition. Same source. “That which is true or in accordance with fact or reality.”
My definition. Truth…opposite of a lie.
I found this online. No source was sited. “What are the two meanings of lie? An assertion of something known or believed by the speaker or writer to be untrue with intent to deceive.”
You know who never tells a lie? Jesus. He never lies.
You know who never tells the truth? The devil. He never tells the truth.
Have you ever been lied to? How does it feel when you find out? I know I feel hurt because someone thought they had to lie to me. Sometimes, parents lie to their children to shield them from bad news. There are some things small children don’t need to know. I’m not saying it’s ok. When you tell a lie to protect someone, when they find out, you will have a lot of explaining to do.
But when you tell the truth, no matter how bad it might be, the truth is always better. The truth will set you free. You won’t have to try to remember what you told to whom. And you won’t have to keep repenting for lying. So tell the truth and you won’t have to remember what lies you told.
Have a great day, everyone.
