“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
(Proverbs 22:6 ESV)
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
(Ephesians 6:4 ESV)
“The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.”
(Proverbs 29:15 ESV)
Have you ever watched how kids play? If there is strife in the house, they reflect that through their play time. But if there is peace and love, they reflect that.
Growing up for me was alright. If mom and dad argued, I never heard it. I saw the results of dad’s anger but never harsh words. Dad wasn’t the easiest to get along with. He was the baby of his family, and grandma spoiled him rotten. My dad had scarlet fever as a child and was babied by the family.
When he grew up, he never showed us love. Oh, I knew He loved me, but I wasn’t his favorite. I may look a lot like his side, but I take after mom’s side.
I want to encourage you to keep displays of anger out of hearing range of your children. You may think they aren’t listening, but they hear more than you know. I also encourage you to take your kids to church. Train them up in church. Teach them the stories in the Bible.
In the church I grew up in, we were there every Sunday morning. I learned about Joseph and his coat of many colors. I learned about Noah and the ark, Daniel in the lions den, Jonah, and the whale along with so many more. My Sunday morning was a time of adventure while learning about the people in the Bible. The most important person I learned about was Jesus. I still remember the people I learned about and songs that we sang. They were just simple little songs, but we put so much effort into them. Sunday School is a wonderful time for kids. Take them to church. Let them learn the true meaning of the unconditional love Jesus has for them.
Have a great day.
