“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”
(Proverbs 16:9 ESV)
“If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.”
(John 7:17 ESV)
I was listening to a show yesterday and the statement was made, “We have free will. And with that comes great responsibility and sometimes great loss.”
Google defines free will as “the power of acting without the constraint of necessity or fate; the ability to act at one’s own discretion.” Do you know God gave us free will when He created us? If He hadn’t given Adam and Eve free will, we would all be living in peace and contentment. But Eve chose to eat the forbidden fruit. Adam chose to eat it also. We also have free will to make our own decisions. We can choose what to eat and wear. Where we want to go and whether we accept God as our Savior or not. God will never force us to choose Him over the devil. He would prefer we did, though.
But it’s our choice if we want to walk the path God chose for us or to follow the worldly ways. I have followed worldly ways for a big portion of my life. Following the path God has for me isn’t always easy, but it’s the best choice for me. I do so much better when I listen to the voice of my Heavenly Father and follow Him.
God has plans for us, and if we choose His ways, He is there guiding us. I’m not saying He isn’t there beside you if you aren’t walking His path. I’m saying it’s a better idea to follow God. Free will can be a good thing, but it can also be a bad thing. Free will can get us into a lot of trouble. It got Adam and Eve kicked out of the Garden of Eden.
Next time free will sounds good. Think long and hard. Is it worth it?
Have a great day, everyone.
