Smelly Fridge

Our future son-in-law moved in with us recently, and with him came more ‘stuff’ than we realized. With the gear taking up one car space in our garage we noted the fridge.

“Luke, is that empty?” my wife enquired on the day of the big move. “It’s only got little bits and pieces in it. I’ll take care of it.”

Fast forward six weeks, and the smell from the garage was increasingly offensive. So for the first day of his holidays, his task was set – to clean out the fridge!

If I hadn’t seen or smelt it I wouldn’t have believed what happened next! Upon opening the door maggots, grubs and other creepy aliens were found inside the unit. But even more confronting was the smell. It was putrid, to the point of gagging!

“That’s your job,” the rest of the family said, as they disappeared backwards out the door holding their noses.

Did you know that being religious is equally offensive to God? I need to be very careful here, but I can’t help hearing Jesus and what he thought. I wonder how this fits into your world.

“Watch out!” Jesus warned them: “beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Matthew 16:6

If you opened up your life today, would it be smelly? Would it be offensive to God? Or would it be clean and sparkling with the awesome love of Jesus?
