“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father . . . So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:29,31 NIV)
Several years ago, when my family’s bird population numbered only ONE, their cockatiel Rocket was at my house while her people were on holiday. I had my two cats at the time, but I also had a much larger house. There were plenty of places for the fur-persons to be without me having to worry that Rocket and the fur-persons would meet.
This particular morning Rocket was in her cage in my computer room, but she very much wanted out for some exercise. I opened her cage door and headed for the room door. At the time I was confined to a wheelchair, but I was quite mobile and confident that I could get the door closed before Rocket made it through.
I had been told that she couldn’t fly, but apparently no one had told HER. Before I could get through the door, there she came, flying past me —— and horror of horrors, the fur-persons were RIGHT OUTSIDE THE DOOR!
Rocket flew down the hall, the fur-persons following in hot pursuit. The only thing I could do was pray, and that I did, fervently! “Father, PLEASE keep Rocket safe from the fur-persons, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE”!
I arrived at the other end of the hall and into the kitchen with great fear as to what I would find. Imagine my surprise and gratitude when I found Rocket calmly marching around the floor, and the fur-persons quivering in a corner.
I am convinced that God sent an Angel – as He did for Daniel of old – to shut those cats’ mouths so they couldn’t harm Rocket. Praise God. He is SO AWESOME and he really cares – even about our little pets.
