How Can I Become a Christian?

by | May 24, 2004 | Salvation

One day after the bell had rung for recess, a little girl, I’ll call her Anna, came up to my desk and asked how she could become a Christian. First I thought I would choke before a word came out. I was stunned; you see Anna was a Jew. I knew the difficulty Anna would face with her family if she became a Christian. My first thought was why Anna, Lord? This was not going to be easy. Anna did not see how shaken I was.

I soon relaxed and caught Anna by the hand and said, “I’ll show you how”. About this time the bell rang and the other children returned to the room. I immediately gave them some `busy work’. Anna and I went into the cloakroom where we sat on the floor and I began to find scriptures and read them to her (John 3:16, 10: 10b, 14:6, 1:12; Romans 3:32, 6:23, 5:8 and Revelation 3:20). After reading these scriptures I asked Anna if she wanted to pray and ask Jesus to come into her life. She did and that was the sweetest prayer I had ever heard. With that prayer, her entire attitude changed.

One day her mother came to school to say thanks to me for the change in her daughter. I asked if I could give Anna a Bible. Anna was so proud of that little white book that contained the words of Jesus. This was the highlight of my teaching career. Her mother was gracious and even allowed Anna to go to a revival with me. My pastor talked to her in private and she told him how the Lord Jesus had saved her. I learned through that experience that if God sends someone to you, not to fear, He would be there to guide you.
