My Special Card

by | May 25, 2003 | Mother's Day

My oldest son was saved as a youth, but didn’t always live as I thought God would want him to.

When he was in his middle 20’s, he did seem to grow up some, but in my heart there was still a question about how strong his faith was. Then on Christmas Eve of 2000 his new wife of 5 months proved to be unfaithful to him, and he wanted to spend some time alone at our farm. Our other four children were staying the night with us for Christmas.

Christmas morning we received the news that our son had been killed in a car accident around 1:00 AM. As I said, our son had wanted to spend some time out at the farm. We did not know that he had already taken the majority of his things out there. So, in sifting though his things, we found a Bible and some study notes where he had joined a church and was apparently active. This was a great gift from God, and it was a blessing to both my husband and to me. I still had some reservations, why I don’t know. Then several months later, in May, we decided to move to the farm and sell our home in town.

On Mother’s Day weekend we were doing the last of the moving. I had gone out to take the last of the trash and put it in the trash can in the garage. The next morning, Sunday Mother’s Day, I went out to get some things out of the car, and there on the top of the trash sack was a card, a Mother’s Day card, signed by David. He had an unusual scribble. This was a fantastic gift from God. This not only confirmed my hope that David was with our Father in heaven, but also confirmed my belief that God does feel our pain, and does have compassion on His children. Needles to say, I have kept this card.
