And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

(Romans 8:28 ESV)

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

(James 1:2-4 ESV)

I am working on my next book so I was going through the past devotionals. Sixty Seconds With God just popped up as next to copy and add. I got to thinking about it. Sixty seconds is not a very long time. But when I started praying, I watched the clock. Sixty seconds can be a long time if you don’t know what to pray about.

I want to propose this to you. Look at the second hand on your clock. Time yourself. Seems like an eternity sometimes. Now I propose another thing. Don’t pray. I don’t mean don’t ever pray. Just for the next 60 seconds talk to God. Tell Him about your day. Tell Him how much you love Him. Just talk to Him like you talk to friends and family.

A little easier? Why is it we can talk for hours to friends but to pray just for a short 60 seconds seems an impossibly long time? I talked on the phone the other night with my best friend from high school. We talked over an hour but it sure didn’t feel that long. But yet, 60 seconds with God seems like hours.

I believe, for me, it’s a mindset. I know I need to pray and I know I need to do other things. But I have made a habit of spending time with God first thing in the morning and last thing at night. But I also talk to Him throughout the day.

Yesterday I got out early on my scooter and drove the 3 blocks to the Dollar General store. It was nice and sunny when I went in. When I came out, it was overcast and chilly. I talked to God all the way home. “Please don’t let it rain on me.” And it didn’t.

So spend time with God. You won’t regret it. I don’t.
