Get Back on the Bus

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

(Galatians 6:9–10)

When Jason was seven, his mother sent him off to school like any other day. But not long after, there was a knock at the door. To her surprise, there stood Jason.  “Jason, what are you doing here?” she asked.

He looked at her and said, “I’ve quit school.”

She asked, “Why?”

With all seriousness, he replied, “It was too long, too hard, and too boring.”

His mother didn’t miss a beat.  With loving firmness, she answered, “Jason, you’ve just described life. Now get back on the bus.”

That kind of honest frustration sounds familiar, doesn’t it?  Life often feels long, hard, and monotonous.  Some days feel are more about making it through than making a difference.  And in those moments, like Jason, we feel like saying, “I quit.”

This struggle doesn’t just show up in our jobs or responsibilities — it finds its way into our spiritual lives, too. We start with good intentions: serving others, volunteering, encouraging our church family, sacrificing.  But over time, discouragement sets in.  Is it really making a difference?  Does anyone even notice?  It’s easy to feel weary, unseen, or unappreciated.

Paul’s words in Galatians 6 remind us that there is a harvest coming — “in due season we shall reap.”  God sees every unnoticed act of service, every small kindness — even when the results aren’t immediate.

Secondly, Paul reminds us that perseverance matters — “as we have opportunity, let us do good.”  Whether it’s helping a neighbor, comforting a friend, or encouraging a fellow Christian, every small act makes a difference.

So, if you’re feeling like Jason — tired of the length, the difficulty, or the monotony of life — hear your heavenly Father say, “That’s life. Now get back on the bus.”  Not because your weariness doesn’t matter, but because your perseverance does.

Keep going.  Keep sowing.  The harvest is coming.

Prayer: Father, I confess that there are times when I grow weary — tired of doing good, tired of giving without seeing results, tired of pressing on.  Renew my spirit.  Give me strength for today and remind me that you are working, even when I can’t see it.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
