“Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.'”
(Psalm 126:2 ESV)
“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”
(Proverbs 17:22 ESV)
“He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouting.”
(Job 8:21 ESV)
I will tell you right now, the devil hates laughter. All the more reason to laugh.
Something happened at church yesterday. While we were upstairs at our Christmas party, someone broke in and stole money out of my wallet. I didn’t get mad, I didn’t get upset. I knew God had a plan. It was restored by my wonderful pastor. On the way home, I gave the devil what for. Then, out of the blue, I started laughing. I am still laughing. It’s not as hard, but I’m still laughing.
The song “Peace Be Still” by Hope Darst came on the radio on my way to church. It changed the atmosphere in my car and in my little corner of the church. Just a short chorus of a song can change things:
“Peace be still
Say the word, and I will.
Set my feet upon the sea.
‘Til I’m dancing in the deep.
Peace be still. You are here, so it is well.
Even when my eyes can’t see.
I will trust the voice that speaks.”Peace Be Still by Hope Darst
I trusted that voice on my way home. He said to laugh. So I laughed. It felt so good. I recommend you give it a shot. See if it makes you feel better, too. But while you laugh, tell the devil off.
My whole take on what happened yesterday is that God has something great coming, and the devil wants to discourage me. He lost. He did not steal my joy. Don’t let him steal yours.
Have a great day, everyone.
