“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
(John 8:32 ESV)
“Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.”
(John 17:17 ESV)
“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
(John 4:24 ESV)
According to Oxford Languages, truth is “that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality.”
Do you always tell the truth? Do you sometimes stretch the truth? Do you tell the truth only if it will show you in a favorable light?
All valid questions. I have a friend who lied to her kids to keep them from lying to her. She told them their eyes changed colors when they lied. It worked until the teen years hit. But a lie is a lie no matter how you might think. There is no such thing as a little white lie. A lie is a lie. God doesn’t want us to sin by lying. He wants us honest and true.
Do you remember Peter? He lied after Jesus was arrested. Jesus even told him he would beforehand. What about Joseph’s brothers? They lied to their father about what happened to Joseph.
Do you think God honored the liars in the Bible? I’m not sure. I’m not a Bible scholar. I don’t know a whole lot about it. But I do know that God will punish liars. So if you have lied to someone, repent. God will forgive you. My suggestion is to live as truthfully as possible so you don’t have to eat your words later.
Have a great day, everyone.
