Let Go of Grudges

by | Oct 25, 2023 | Forgiveness, Grudges

“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

(Ephesians 4:31-32 ESV)

“Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

(Romans 12:17-21 ESV)

Google defines grudge as “a persistent feeling of ill will or resentment resulting from a past insult or injury.”

Have you ever held a grudge? Did you ever let go of it?

Holding a grudge doesn’t make you feel better. I read this on, yes. Facebook: “Holding a grudge does not make you strong. It makes you bitter. Forgiving does not make you weak. It sets you free.”

I could quit right there. But which would you prefer? Bitter or free? I choose free.

I have held grudges before. All it did was eat at me until I became very bitter. But I have forgiven them. Even though they did not know I held a grudge against them, I forgave them in my heart. It’s time to let go of grudges. Let them go and be free.

Have a great day, everyone.
