We All Need Friends

“A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24 ESV)

“Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.'” (1 Corinthians 15:33 ESV)

We can all use a few good friends in our lives. I still remember my very first best friend. Her name was Dolly but I called her Mommy. I was just a toddler.

As I grew, I had a lot of friends. We played together and had a lot of fun. But we moved away from my hometown when I was in 8th grade. Talk about culture shock. I left a school that had a graduating class of around 60 to a graduating class of maybe 15. I forget exactly but it’s less than 20. At least the kids were friendly and I made friends fairly quickly. I am still friends with a lot of my former classmates but one in particular. We have been friends for 48 years.

God puts people in our lives to enrich our lives. Then again sometimes it’s to teach us something. I have a lot of very dear people in life that I call friend.

But I used to have what I called stormy friends. They blow in for awhile, leave a path of destruction then blow out again.

I also have seasonal friends. They come into my life for a season then are gone.

God sends people to me. He may use them to bless me but here lately he is using me to bless them. I know that with the “plague” going around, people aren’t doing the things they used to. They are tired of the rules. So am I. But truthfully, I have kind of enjoyed this past year. God has shown me who I can trust, who I can depend on and who to keep at a distance.

But the one person I never keep at a distance, who I trust completely and can always depend on is God. He will never let me down. He will never leave or forsake me. And he is always there for me. He will be the same thing for you, if you will let him. Call on him. Say hi to your best friend ever. He is waiting.
