I have a confession to make. I am not a forwarder. I check my email faithfully–even read most of it. But despite threats of gazillions of missed blessings and sure-fire calamities if I don’t “forward this to 10 people in the next 3 minutes,” I still do not forward. And guess what. I’m still here. I haven’t noticed any missed blessings (though in all fairness, how would I really notice that). No more calamities than usual either. I haven’t even had any kidneys stolen as far as I know. Despite my forwarding rebellion, the bird of paradise has never flown up my nose–or whatever in the world they’re saying will happen this week. And can we just please face the fact that Bill Gates is NEVER going to send me any money?
Those kinds of emails stress me out a little. Who really believes that stuff?
I’ve decided if I’m going to forward–to pass something on–it’s going to have to be something believable. And not just believable, but worthwhile. As a matter of fact, unless I find something eternally worthwhile, I just can’t bring myself to press that send button.
Being “sent” doesn’t cause stress if Jesus is the one doing the sending. In John 20:21, the resurrected Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” (NIV) His peace is the opposite of stress. And what a privilege to be sent on such a worthy mission by the Savior himself. His sending gives us the mission of passing on, sending forward, his message of salvation. Talk about eternally worthwhile. I can say without the tiniest hint of stress: Put that in your computer and forward it.
