The Missing Ingredient

Micah 6:8 – He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? (NKJV)

I was in the process of preparing dinner when the phone rang. Usually I am good at multi-tasking. So I continued to prepare the potato salad while talking on the phone. I was almost done the potato salad at the same time that the phone call was finished. As I hung up the phone and placed the potato salad into the fridge, I had a sense that something was not right. I could not figure it out, so I continued with the dinner preparations.

Minutes before dinner was ready to be served, I opened the fridge to get out the things for the dinner. There, sitting right at the front of the fridge, were the eggs — eggs that were supposed to be in the potato salad! I had just enough time to add them and then serve dinner.

How often do we find ourselves trying to engage with the Father and yet our mind is on other things? The Father wants to have our undivided attention, and yet we think we can multi-task love and time with Him.

Our walk with the Lord is not meant to be a supplement to our life, but our life is to be in a relationship with Him. How much more fulfilling and fruitful we could be if we could keep this at the forefront of our walk with the Lord.

Ephesians 3:17-19 – That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height — to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (NKJV)

Prayer: Dear Lord, we are sorry for all the times when we have tried to multi-task with You. Help us to focus and to give You our undivided attention, and to move forward into more times when You are our focus in this life, just as it is said in Your Word in today’s Scripture from Ephesians. Amen.
