The Overflow of Sin

by | May 27, 2002 | Salvation, Sin

I remember when I was using drugs and alcohol. I used to think to myself…”I’m not hurting anyone but me. It’s my life, I can do what I want with it. Oh sure, it might hurt God, but He can deal with it. At least I am not affecting the lives of anyone else around me. Besides, it’s just that MY LIFE.”

Sound at all familiar? I think it would if you would be honest with your own thoughts. Funny thing is, it does affect others around you. Let me explain with this little “parable”.

A man, Joe, has land. He just purchased it, and he really wants it to flourish. Problem is, for some reason, the water that flowed through it before has dried up! Well, he says, there is another river flowing near by. I’ll just build a dam and re-channel it toward my land. That will solve the problem. So…he does, and it does! His land begins to do well, but he never looks past the boundaries of his land, to see what it has done to everyone around him. Let’s take a look? OK?

John down the way had his whole crop die for lack of water. Now him and his family of six are being fore closed on and have to leave their land they have had since he was a child. Hummmm didn’t effect him huh?

Harold down the way a bit, finds all his green pastures dying. Turning brown. Worst of all, his sheep are dying too. There is no water or pasture to feed them in. He does not have the kind of resources to pay for grain, so he has to sell his herd. In the end, his family and him will have to find some other way to support themselves. Hummmm Joe did not effect him at all huh?

Beloved, when we do things to hurt ourselves, it does affect the lives of those around us. The husband who uses, could lose his life. Then the wife, kids and everything they built could be lost for lack of the financial in put. The woman who uses, could lose her family and everything she has, including her dignity to support her habit.

But it does not have to be drugs or booze? It could be any sin! SIN filters down onto those we love in so may ways. The Over Flow of Sin can hurt emotions, finances, health, well being, relationships, etc. it just becomes a cycle of the “domino effect” in our lives.

Next time you think about “sin”, think about the Over Flow of what you may do. Mind you, Satan does not want you to think on those things! That would defeat his whole purpose! To destroy you and those around you!!! Hummmmmmm
