God of Wonder

by | May 29, 2000 | Creation, Poem, Reverance

When I see the wonders You have made:
Sky and star, leaf and blade,

And when I ponder closer still…
all things reveal a POWER, a WILL…

Oh to know the one behind…
the creation of a thinking mind.

Then I realize, “Woe of woes”…
Man struggles to believe, while all creation KNOWS…

Fish, bird, plant, animal or bee…
all immediately recognize thee.

While I in wonder, the way of my kind…
stagger around as if quite blind…

Yet worse in fact and too often true…
I raise my fist to curse at YOU.

For I want to be in control…
I push you aside, I step into your role…

No longer content to wonder and praise…
I have decided, “I KNOW BETTER WAYS”,

To party on, to rage, to laugh…
THERE’LL BE NO CONSEQUENCES ALONG MY PATH…

Then the fruit I begin to see…
Syphilis, Aids or HIV,

Murders, Rapes, addictions too…
we’re so determined not to look to You…

Arrogance and pride, cruelty and greed…
We try to satisfy OUR NEED, OUR NEED!

More perversion… longer, stronger highs…
We eagerly swallow all Satan’s lies…

Till one day, if time allows…
and we’ve finally slain all our sacred cows.

When nothing matters, when there’s nothing of worth…
We may finally perceive a SECOND BIRTH…

As our first Adam gasps out his last…
the time of lust and revelry past.

Blind eyes are opened by spit and mud…
A second Adam offers up His blood…

A transfusion of purity, freedom, rebirth…
a NEW CREATION, a HOME, a NEW EARTH.

Then the wonder of God I now also see…
Christ’s own blood has purchased me…

At last I kneel and yield control…
to the one who has made me whole.

Our Creator of wonder I FINALLY SEE…
THE GOD WHO LOVED AND DIED FOR ME…
