Beauty for Ashes

by | Jun 1, 1999 | Blessing, Poem

Beauty for ashes and the oil of gladness
For the spirit of heaviness.
What an awesome promise, Lord, Full of life and hope.

Promising great fulfillment In bringing in Your Kingdom,
Which we want to come
On this earth as it is in Your heaven.

Our souls are downcast.
Lord, we are lost and lone here;
Weak and wanting are we.
In ourselves we have nothing,

We are nothing.
No power, no glory, no honor, nothing.
Nothing within ourselves that can offer
The hope, love and joy that only You can bring.

So, Lord, we ask You to fill us now
With that oil you have promised;
Give us living water to drink
And Your broken body to share.

Lord, we abandon ourselves to You;
We will follow you.
We abandon our will now to follow you,
Thirsting for living water,

Hungry for the Bread of Heaven,
Desperate for the Oil of Gladness
And desiring only Your Breath
To blow away these ashes

And breathe Your new life into us.
Lord, we commit our ways To You now.
Fill us with Your will, only Your will, Lord.

We are the sheep of Your hand.  Amen
