Six Choices That Make You a Victor

March 10, 2025

… in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us
~ Romans 8:39 NIV ~

It wasn’t a good day when we learned someone had stolen our identity. The thieves were quick to use our social security number and other personal data to file taxes and request a refund. We found out through a letter we received from the IRS.

Without wasting a minute, I called them and the agent listed the places to notify we were victims of ID theft. I got busy on the phone. But after the second call where I repeated, “We are victims of ID theft,” I stopped myself. Victims? As believers in the power of Christ in us there is no such thing as victims.

I changed my wording and said, “We have a problem we need to correct.”

How about you?

Was something stolen from you lately? An opportunity you hungered for? A safety net you leaned on? Independence you valued? The confidence you once had??

When you spend time pondering on the things you lost, you’ll end up suffering from the poor me syndrome. I’ve been tempted to do the same—when I lost my sight, when I lost my son, when my marriage ended after 42 years.

Six Choices You Can Make

I’m not the only one. You might have traveled on that road of pain too. And as a result, you might be tempted to join the victims anonymous group. And, with a sad face, repeated the sorry events that messed up your life. But the answer comes, the door opens up and freedom smiles when you discover the answer lies in the choices you make:

1. Are you choosing to shed the victim mentality?
2. Are you choosing to believe in God’s victory?
3. Are you choosing to stand on this truth when He says: “… in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:37 NIV)?
4. Are you choosing to live in the freedom through Christ Jesus?
5. Are you choosing to speak words of life and triumph?
6. And finally, even when adversity attacks, are you choosing to delight in God’s commandments? "Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands are my delight." (Psalm 119:143 NIV)

Even if someone stole your identity in this world, no one can steal who you are in Christ Jesus—you are victorious, more than conqueror, triumphant and secure. All because Christ Jesus came to give us the true identity as His own and His beloved.

Let’s pray: Father, I confess my foolishness in finding a strange sense of comfort when feeling like a victim. But now, through your Son Jesus, I am indeed a victor no matter what comes against me. I will triumph because of You, because of Your unending love and faithfulness.

What victory are you counting on these days?
