Stay? Or Run Away? The Sling for God, Part 20

March 8, 2021

In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me: ‘Flee like a bird to your mountain.

~ Psalms 11:1 NIV ~

"In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me: ‘Flee like a bird to your mountain.’” (Psalms 11:1 NIV)

We all have something very strongly in common with David: We all have problems!

When we have problems, what should we do?

In Psalms 11:1, David offers us two choices: Either we take refuge in the Lord, or we "flee like a bird"! In other words, in the face of problems, we either stay, or we run and hide!

Just a few months ago, I was asked to share my testimony of when God promised me healing of Alzheimer’s. I was very nervous, especially since one of the worst manifestations of the Alzheimer’s was that it attacked my speech and my ability to find my words. What would people say? Would they laugh at me?

During the weeks leading up to this testimony, I was often tempted to flea. Instead I listened to Jesus. I claimed the promise that He would be with me. In the end? As a result of my testimony, there was someone in the church who was healed on the spot. If I hadn’t taken refuge in Jesus, if I had “flown” into hiding, this person wouldn’t have been healed.

Let’s always remember that our Heavenly Father is with us, and He will never leave us alone: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deut. 31:6 NIV). That means that no matter what the problem, we can take it directly to our Heavenly Father, and He will guide us.

What problem are you facing right now? I encourage you to follow David’s advice and take refuge in the Lord. He will guide you, He will stay with you and empower you, and as a result, the doors may be opened for others to be blessed as well!

In His love,
Rob Chaffart
