Unconsolable

I am the recipient of a miracle. After three miscarriages, I am the proud mom to a 3-month old health, happy baby boy.

Things, however, aren't always perfect. Take, for example, the day a friend and I took him with us to the mall for some shopping...

Needless to say, my little miracle boy wasn't his normal, happy self, and he wasn't having any part of our shopping. He cried the whole time, and no amount of consoling would stop him.

Now when you are with a crying baby in a store, it doesn't take long for everyone to begin looking at you. In fact, it almost seems like they are on a search for that crying baby who refuses to be consoled! And you do what I did: You take that crying baby out of the store as quickly as you can!

Once in the car, however, the only improvement to the situation was that people were no longer staring at us. My baby boy still wasn't a happy camper, and nothing was working to settle him down.

As a mom, I wanted nothing more than to see my baby happy all the time. I just want him to know that he is loved and that no matter what, including whatever he is going through at the moment, we will always be there for him.

This all made me think. It made me think about the story of the prodigal son, and how his father waited, watching the road continually, for his son to come home. It made me think about how that father, the moment he saw his son, jumped up and ran down the road to take the wayward boy in his arms: “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him....the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate." (Luke 15:20, 22-24 NIV).

When we are upset in life, we always tend to reject the comfort and love that God so graciously extends to us. Yet, with each and every tantrum we throw, He still extends His arms and shows His love to us, no matter what. He is always there to console us, even when we aren't ready for it or don't want it. You see, God wants the same thing for all of us. He loves us with a love that is so far greater than the love of our parents that we can't even imagine it.

This gives me so much peace just thinking about it...

So just remember when you are having that trying day and you don’t want to be consoled: there is a Heavenly Father right there waiting for you when you’re ready. Run into His arms let Him assure you that everything will be okay!
