Lord, through all the generations you have been our home!
~ Psalms 90:1 TLB ~

"Lord, through all the generations you have been our home!" (Psalm 90:1 TLB)

I love my home. I have moved many times but everywhere I have lived, I have loved and taken pride in my dwelling place.  Some homes were large, others tiny.  Some needed a lot of loving care; others were move in ready.  Each home however always provided shelter and warmth, a place to eat and sleep, to be loved and encouraged by family, a place to mature and grow in wisdom and yes, even protection and escape from long days at work and the burdens of the world. Thus, when I read today’s scripture, this thought of the Lord being our home resonated within me deeply, for it is so true.

Within a Christians’ relationship with God, we discover an eternal home where all our needs are met now and forever.  Whom do we turn to but the Lord, for encouragement and wisdom, especially when all else fails? In whom do we discover food and maturity for the mind and soul in the truth of His Word and the guidance of His Spirit? Within the warmth of His everlasting love and forgiveness, we find shelter, a place to rest, protection and an escape from the never-ending burdens of this world.

Yes, much like the wonderful things our earthly homes provide for us, our eternal home in the Lord does likewise for all who believe, no matter where we live or how often we move.

The Psalmist penned these truths: "I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.  If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—but even in the darkness I cannot hide from you.  To you the night shines as bright as day.  Darkness and light are the same to you." (Psalm 139:7-12 TLB)

What an awesome and wonderful Lord we serve and are loved by, for indeed He is our home.  He is our place of refuge and renewal now and forever. Let us therefore take pride in Him, as our dwelling place and be prepared to share this amazing truth with those who are spiritually homeless, for God desires that all should find their eternal home in Him through belief in Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Prayer: Lord, through all the generations you have been our home!  In gratitude and humility may we therefore be people of hospitality, always open to inviting others to dwell within your love and forgiveness as well.  In Christ’s name we pray.  Amen.
