How Majestic Is Your Name: The Sling for God, Part 16

February 19, 2021

Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?

~ Psalms 8:1-4 NIV ~

“Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” (Ps. 8:1-4 NIV)

I love to travel, and I have been blessed beyond measure to have been able to travel as extensively as I have. One thing that becomes clearer and clearer with each place I am privileged to visit: Our planet is a beautiful place! It is absolutely amazing! Sure, it is full of trouble. Yes, we are ruining God’s creation through global warming and climate change. I admit that we are encroaching on animal habitats, resulting in extinction of many of God’s created species. Nonetheless, despite all that we’ve done to this planet, the glory and majesty of God’s creation cannot be hidden.

Let’s remember that the earth was created with mankind in mind. Oh, how gorgeously beautiful it must have been at the beginning. This is because God loves you! He cares for … You!

Does your faith need some work? Are you tempted to wonder if God cares about you and your problems? Why not go out and admire nature? You don’t have to travel the world to do this. Even if you live in a high-rise building in the midst of a populated area, there is always something to be seen. A bird, a flower, a weed working its way up between the cracks in the concrete. All beautiful examples of God’s creation. Jesus tells us that we can use each of these examples of God’s creation as a reminder of His love for us: “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matt. 6:26 NIV); and “See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you…” (Matt. 6:28-30 NIV)

Whatever you are facing right now, take a few moments to consider God through His creation. I guarantee it will be a powerful, life-changing moment, and we won’t be able to stop ourselves from proclaiming, in the words of David: “Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” (Ps. 8:9 NIV).

In His love,
Rob Chaffart
