Kids Can Be a Blessing?

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

(Proverbs 22:6 ESV)

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

(Ephesians 6:4 ESV)

Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.

(Proverbs 17:6 ESV)

Kids can be a blessing? Yes, that is a question. The answer depends on the kid.

I don’t have any biological kids but I have 2 beautiful ladies who adopted me as their mom. So I accepted and became a mom, grandma, and great-grandma. I love every one of them. They each have their own special qualities and quirks. They make me laugh and drive me crazy. I wouldn’t change a minute of it.

Jesus’ disciples tried to prevent people from bringing little children to Jesus for a blessing, but Jesus rebuked them and said, “Let the little children come to Me; do not forbid them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these”. The disciples likely thought it was improper or a waste of Jesus’ time, but Jesus was displeased by their actions and taught that childlike faith and humility are central to the kingdom of heaven.

What are you teaching your kids? Are you training them up in the way they should go? Are you teaching them to be polite, respectful, and kind? Or are you letting them set the rules? Children need guidance and love. They need boundaries and consequences for unacceptable behavior. Most of all, though, teach them the love of Jesus. Show them that Jesus is love, understanding, and forgiveness.

Show your children by example. Be the role model they so desperately need.

Have a fabulous day, everyone.
