Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.
(Philippians 3:13 ESV)
Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
(Isaiah 43:18-19 ESV)
I know the Bible says to not remember the things of the past. I don’t think that means to completely forget your past. At least I hope not. I will admit that there are things I want to forget. But there are things from my past that bring a smile to my face.
I grew up old-time Pentecostal. No makeup, jewelry except watch and wedding rings. Ladies also had long hair and skirts and dresses. I loved Sunday morning at church, though. I loved the songs we sang in Sunday School. Songs like Deep and Wide, This Little Light of Mine, The Devil is a Sly Old Fox, I’m in Lords Army. We would elbow each other away, so we had room for the motions of the songs. Those are good memories. I think God wants us to remember good times.
In my opinion, our past is what helped make us what we are today. Without a past, where would we be? Who would we be? Remember your past but don’t live there. God has a wonderful plan for us, but we need to keep moving forward. So my advice to you is to remember your past but don’t live there. You have a bright future no matter how old you are. God has a plan for us. Let’s find out what that is and start living it. God loves you, and so do I.
Have a fabulous day, everyone.
