Moving On

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”

(Romans 8:18 ESV)

“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

(Philippians 3:14 ESV)

Have you ever had to move on? Whether it was a friendship gone bad, a job you hated, or even church. You knew you had to move on.

I had a few of those moments in my life. The last one was almost 17 years ago when I left my last church. I drug my feet. I felt like I still had things to do there. But the truth be told, I didn’t. It was time to leave. There are times when we feel like we need to go, but we don’t. Why not? I can’t explain it. But I’ve done it, too.

Jesus told His disciples to shake the dust off and move on: “And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town.” (Matthew 10:14 ESV); “And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town, shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.” (Luke 9:5 ESV)

I know I paraphrased Jesus’ words a bit when I said He told His disciples to shake the dust off and move on; but that’s how I took it. Shake it off and move on.

I know my time to move on is coming. But the place I am going will be a million times better than here. That place is heaven. But until then, I pray I don’t have to move anywhere. I’m getting too old to move and start new. But I will be obedient to the Lord’s will. If He wants me somewhere else, I will go. I just hope that doesn’t mean leaving my church.

What about you? Would you go if God asked you to? How far would you go?  Would you be willing to uproot everything and go start somewhere else? A new home, a new job? What about your church?

It’s hard to go somewhere that no one knows you. It’s hard to try to start over. So the question to you today. Are you willing to move on if God asks you to? Think about it.

Have a fantastic day, everyone.
