“Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.” (John 8:47 ESV)

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:27-28 ESV)

I was out and about early yesterday morning. I was listening to a Christian radio channel. The DJ made the statement, “Wrong voices lead to bad choices.” I started thinking about that. If you listen to the voice of the devil, you will make bad choices. That’s his job, to try to confuse you. He will tell you things that sound great. He will try to encourage you to do things that are not right for you.

The devil loves to confuse and confound us every chance he gets. He wants us out of God’s will for us. But if I know God’s voice, the devil can’t win. God will one up him every time.

For example, many years ago, I thought it was a good idea to take out a loan. One loan led to another and that led to a payday loan. See where I’m going? I wasn’t listening to what God was saying. I was listening to the devil tell me to take out another loan. I dug myself out eventually but it was a long, hard road. I learned to listen for God first. I pray about things first now instead of being impulsive and jumping right in.

God will never tell you to live beyond your means, but sometimes you just need a little help. And God understands that and has a way of escape already in place. So I encourage you today to practice listening for God’s voice and shutting out all others that you might hear. Trust God and He will help you.
