“Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will lift you up.” (James 4:10 ESV)
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.” (Philippians 2:14-15 ESV)
I am a light sleeper most of the time. I think it comes from years of listening for the ambulance pager to go off in the middle of the night. Well, I got woke up at 2 a.m. yesterday morning to my neighbor outside my window talking to someone loudly. Then to his door being slammed shut. I could not go back to sleep. I tried but sleep eluded me.
God used this time to talk to me about my attitude this past week. I will admit it hasn’t been a very good one. Things have come up and I haven’t always handled them in the best way. God gently reminded me that just because someone yelled at me, that isn’t a good reason for me to get bent out of shape and yell back. He said that guy was having a bad day and took it out on me and everyone else he ran into that day. God also told me to take a deep breath and count to 10 as I exhale. I will be calmer if I do.
In Philippians it says to do everything without grumbling or arguing. You know, sometimes that is easier said than done. But I am putting myself into God’s hands. I am going to trust Him to keep His hand over my mouth so I don’t say what I am thinking and I can stay out of trouble.
I looked up attitude. According to google, “Attitude is a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior.” Well, my behavior has not been all that great. But I am going to take God’s correction with gratitude and change my attitude. I didn’t have to look up adjustment. It means a change. I need to change my attitude.
Do you need an attitude adjustment?
Have a great day!
