“Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12. NRSV.
My latest need is to travel to a nearby city for medical appointments. I am learning about bus times. Transfers! Streets to take.
The first time out for one appointment was chaotic and because I did not inquire of anyone and took a long way but eventually found the huge building. Determined next time to find my way I kept asking for directions. Some people could not give any. Others had some idea. Someone knew for certain.
I took notes so next time I would have even easier time to take to the street few blocks away where the local public bus would be stopping. I had been told the number of the bus which to take and sure enough a sign was posted where such a bus would stop.
It was a triumph to find the way to the hospital.
The next trip was to another clinic with new challenges. But remembering how I had conquered before I left all worry behind and asked for directions. I had written on a piece of paper my destination in large print and showing it helped the ones I was asking. Not everyone knew about the clinic. Not everyone knew what I was looking for but those who did gave me the right directions.
My spiritual journey began with much the same. Something inside me stirred me to move to look beyond my stagnant situation to a new level – away from my old surroundings to seek answers to my inner questions, to seek a way.
My first steps took me the long way and even the wrong way. I found out by and by that if I wanted help and answers I was to keep asking and seeking. I was to determine what I was seeking. I was to find the delight of the right way. Thankfully God sent Christians to my way and because of their testimony I began to grow in faith.
One can find a spiritual way by visiting a Bible teaching church. Also discovering Christians to tell their story combined to the Story of Jesus! It might take a crucial event before we make a decision to follow Jesus in all things. It can happen slowly but surely. It might be an sudden epiphany moment to see Jesus! One thing is for sure. God calls us by name!
PRAYER: God of love and mercy! Without you we will be on a wrong journey. Going the wrong way! Ending forever without you! Send us to a new place to seek things above – to see things above. Renew us according to your Word. Set our feet on a solid rock of faith. Wash us and we shall be clean. Save us and we will be forever safe in Jesus name! Amen.
