“Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ.” – Matthew 1:17

C. S. Lewis was born in Belfast, Ireland, on November 29, 1898. He was educated by a private tutor prior to entering University College, Oxford in 1916. He taught at Magdalen College, Oxford, from 1925 to 1954, and from 1954 until his death in Oxford he was professor of medieval and Renaissance English at Cambridge University in Cambridge.

Lewis became a Christian in 1931 and is best remembered as a Christian writer and apologist. Concerning the Incarnation of Christ, C.S. Lewis wrote:

“Lying at your feet is your dog. Imagine, for the moment, that your dog and every dog is in deep distress. Some of us love dogs very much. If it would help all the dogs in the world to become like men, would you be willing to become a dog? Would you put down your human nature, leave your loved ones, your job, hobbies, your art and literature and music, and choose instead of the intimate communion with your beloved, the poor substitute of looking into the beloved’s face and wagging your tail, unable to smile or speak? Christ by becoming man limited the thing which to Him was the most precious thing in the world; his unhampered, unhindered communion with the Father.”

It is incomprehensible that Christ would leave His Heavenly home to come to live on earth for us – but He did. Today in prayer, let the Lord know how much you love Him and appreciate Him becoming a man for you.
