The Multiplication Principle

by | Jun 2, 1999 | Great Commission, Witnessing

“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.” – 2 Timothy 2:2

In 1937, Paul V. Gupta heard the gospel from a missionary in his tiny Indian village. Wanting to become a foreign missionary, Paul began to realize that there was a great need in India. In 1952, he and his wife began the Hindustan Bible Institute in the city of Madras. Working in a rented building, Paul began teaching 5 students. Paul understood that for the gospel to take spread through India it would be through multiplication. “Teach, one man to reach another man for Jesus Christ,” he would remind his students. Upon his death in the 1980’s,

Paul’s son Bobby presided over the Hindustan Institute. Bobby took to heart the multiplication principle. He required that all of the students start a church before they were allowed to graduate. As a result 500 new churches were started in the southern part of India around Madras through the Hindustan Bible Institute. In its first fifty years, the Hindustan Bible Institute has graduated some 7,600 men and women. More importantly, these graduates have touched more than 942,000 people in India who have trusted Christ as their Savior.

It is important to not only lead someone to Christ, but to disciple others. Today in prayer, ask the Lord for one man or woman you can help disciple so they can reach others for Christ.

“There goes a chain reaction – one disciple makes another disciple and that disciple makes another disciple and that indeed is the way to multiply the task force.” – Jebaraj Samuel

God’s Word: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20
