Sometimes I feel like I'm auditioning for a comedy show as I stamp my
feet to create vibrations, wave my arms like a windmill, and shout as
loudly as I can. Yes, having 3 very elderly canines in the house who are
all at one stage or another of deafness and blindness makes for some
interesting times and actions as I seek to get their attention.
God is also known for employing some interesting attention getting
actions in regards to his people who often suffer from both spiritual
blindness and deafness.
"There the angels of the LORD appeared to
him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush
was on fire it did not burn up." Exodus 3:2 NIV
"Then the LORD
opened the donkey's mouth, and she said to Balaam, What have I done to
you to make you beat me these three times?" Numbers 22:28 NIV
"After the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled
his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, What are you doing here, Elijah?" 1 Kings
19:13 NIV
"But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord
appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph son of David, do not be
afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her
is from the Holy Spirit." Matthew 1:20 NIV
"As he neared Damascus
on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell
to the ground and heard a voice say to him, Saul, Saul, why do you
persecute me?" Acts 9:4 NIV
Perhaps today God may be seeking to
get our attention through various means and actions. Why? Because he
loves us and is prepared to do whatever is necessary to give us every
chance to hear and respond to his life changing love. A love which opens
the eyes of those who acknowledge it and allows them to see the purpose
and plan He has for their lives, each and every day. The real question
however is: how will we respond?
Prayer: Father God thank you
that you love us so much that you are willing to reach out in various
and unconventional ways to get our attention. Open our spiritual ears
and eyes this day that we might see the wondrous plan you have for us.
In Christ's name we ask. Amen.
