Yesterday was a glorious fall day. It was the kind of day that
invigorated ones senses; a day that caused one to marvel at God's
handiwork. The maple tree on our front lawn stood like a torch. Its
mighty flame of vibrant orange leaves flickering against the backdrop of
a perfect sky-blue canvas. I ran outside, camera in hand, and aimed its
lens up through the leaves towards the sky hoping to capture some of
this majesty for future reference. Today, that same tree braves the
cool, wet, and unsettled weather under an ominous grey sky. It's wilted
leaves clinging to strikingly bare branches. Our once green lawn is now
completely hidden under a thick blanket of colourful autumn leaves. What
a difference a day makes.
"So then faith comes by
hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:17 NKJV)
Life is like
that, isn't it? There are times in life when things are going so well,
we feel like we're on top of the world and we can't imagine life being
any better. Brimming with confidence and joy, we stand tall ready to
take on the world. And then, almost before we know what's happened, it
seems like things couldn't get any worse. Our spirit sags, our shoulders
slump, and just hoping to survive it, we grumble our way through our
day. The good old days quickly become hazy memories amid our current
dark and mired existence. What a difference a day makes.
Thankfully there is a place we can take refuge when we are weary, worn,
and depleted. Turn to God's Word and read His promises. Seek refuge in
God's truth. Call on Him. Just as my front lawn was completely hidden
under the thick blanket of leaves, scripture tells us that He will cover
us and shelter us with his wings of love. Start building your faith back
up by bringing to mind the 'good old days'. My photo of the vibrant
orange leaves set against the perfect blue sky will rekindle my memory
of that glorious day. Thinking about all of those times when God
answered our prayers with a yes and amen is a faith building exercise.
So let's count our blessings and build our spiritual muscles by reading
and speaking the Word of God!
Prayer: Loving Heavenly Father, We
thank you for your Word. Thank you providing a safe place of refuge for
us. When life overwhelms us, cover us with your wings of love and shield
us from all attacks of the enemy. Comfort those who need Your touch
today Lord. Thank you for using autumn to remind us of your majesty and
abounding love for us. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen
