At times life can be a harsh mind-shock, leaving its victim in state of
utter unbelief and pain. The emotions involved with serious issues like:
divorce, rape, sexual abuse, and other grievous scars can leave ones
head whirling. It is as if we are on a merry-go-round, never stopping,
making us sick to our stomachs. In honesty I believe each individual can
produce their own list of soul injuries, leaving them with a permanent
"limp" in life. I have had my personal set of wounds and injuries-so I
totally relate to this type of pain.
I grew up with a horrid
friend called depression and no matter what I tried to do to ditch this
friend; he always found a way back to haunt me. I was plagued with
suicidal thinking, hopelessness, and a dim future. I was left feeling
despondent and helpless: "was there truly a God out there who would help
this man out of his walking hell?" If so, I never saw any sign of him! I
had a plethora of friends and family who demanded I just snap out of it,
and if for any reason I couldn't, it was obviously my fault entirely.
Consequently, my ticket aboard the roller - coaster of depression
deepened, suffocating all the life out of me, with no hope in sight!!
How about you? What merry-go-round are you on at this very moment?
Maybe it's addiction, and no matter how hard you try putting the pill
bottle or needle down, you obliterate yourself time and time again.
Possibly it's the effects of severe sexual or physical abuse. When
looking in the mirror you loathe what you see and desire a way out. For
some of you, the vigor for life has diminished - and you are reduced to
a life of mediocrity. Others of you may be grieving over a lost loved
one and the pain tears at your very spirit.
No matter what the
issue, you're stuck! And going around and around the same pain is
causing heartache and grief that is unbearable. Speaking from a person
who has been through extreme mental damage I can honestly say: THERE IS
HOPE! Isaiah 61 gives us a glimpse into the real heart of God,
concerning anguish and pain, Jesus being the voice of comfort for anyone
trapped by life. Jesus came, according to Isaiah, for those beaten down
by dejection and upset, dying for a way out. The hope Jesus brings is:
you are no longer alone and expected to repair your personal wounds; He
came to save and heal you. People have opinions and judgments -- God has
love and compassion. Family may abuse and disown you -- Jesus calls you
into adoption, welcoming you into His family with merciful open arms.
You may have given up on yourself; however God never gives up on you.
God is there no matter what, and I mean NO MATTER WHAT may be going on
in your life. You may feel like a dog chasing its tail, going around and
around and around, but God can make the rollercoaster stop and give you
rest. Trust Him today -- He really does love you!
