Light of the World

“Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’”

(John 8:12 ESV)

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill can not be hidden.”

(Matthew 5:14 ESV)

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

(John 1:5 ESV)

There’s a song called, “Light of the World” by Hillsong:

“Light of the world
You stepped down into darkness.
Opened my eyes, let me see.
Beauty that made this heart adore You.
Hope of a life spent with You.”

Light of the World, by Hillsong

Jesus is the light of the world. But He also wants us to shine. He wants us to be a light for the lost and searching. Are you a light shining in the dark? Do you want to be?

I used to think no, I really don’t want to. Being a light for the lost meant I had to talk to people about Jesus. I wasn’t comfortable doing that. What if they asked me a question that I couldn’t  answer? What if they wanted me to pray for them?

Well, now I want to be a light. I want to talk to people about Jesus. Am I comfortable doing it? Absolutely not. But it’s getting better.   Jesus has been working on me, and it’s getting easier. It’s been a slow process, but I’m getting there. Jesus has slowly been pulling me out of my comfort zone. I have found myself studying more, praying more, and just talking to Jesus more. I even prayed over the meal on Sunday with my neighbors. Way out of my comfort zone.

But that’s how Jesus wants me right now, out of my comfort zone. He has done this before. He has pulled me out and then let me rest there, learning for a while. The current awhile is over. Jesus is again pulling me out of my comfort zone. And that’s alright. I am excited to see what He is going to do. Where this pulling will lead.

So stay tuned, and have a great day.
