“Now, may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.”
(2 Thessalonians 3:16 ESV)
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.”
(Isaiah 26:3 ESV)
Have you ever had such a peaceful feeling that it feels like nothing can get you down? I have had that feeling before. It’s a wonderful feeling. The song “It Is Well With My Soul” comes to mind:
“When peace like a river attendeth my way,
It Is Well With My Soul by Horatio Spafford
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot,
Thou hast taught me to say,
‘It is well, it is well. with my soul!’
It is well with my soul!
It is well, it is well with my soul!”
I love that song. It was written out of a deep personal tradegy. Horatio Spafford lost his 4 daughters at the same time due to the ship they were on collided with another one and sank. He wrote this song while going to Europe to be with his wife, the sole survivor of his family.
It’s incredible to think such encouraging and uplifting words were born from the depths of such unimaginable sorrow. It’s an example of truly inspiring faith and trust in the Lord. And it goes to show the power our God has to overcome even the darkest times of our earthly life.
I can remember when my mom passed away. I was calm and peaceful. I knew where she was, and I knew she was happy. God is so good. He can take a tragedy and bring such peace to the people involved. It just absolutely amazes me. God loves us so much that He will give us the kind of peace that can only come from Him.
The next time you are frustrated, ask God for peace. He will calm down the nerves and frustration.
