Patience Is a Virtue

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and be constant in prayer.”

(Romans 12:12 ESV)

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

(Galatians 6:9 ESV)

I had to have some tests done yesterday. The lab was training new employees. They were backed up. For the most part, people were understanding. But there was one lady who suddenly stood up and said she had been there 30 minutes and left. No patience at all.

Another couple was also impatient. I offered to let them go ahead of me. They thanked me but refused. The poor lab girl I got was almost in tears. She told me she needed a mother’s hug. So I hugged her and she cried a bit. After getting my tests done, I hugged her again. That hug produced a smile from her. It’s amazing what a simple act of giving someone a hug or encouraging word can do.

Do you think Jesus was ever impatient? I don’t know. But I believe He had plenty of opportunity to be. I can see Him getting impatient when people rejected him. I would walk away, but He kept at them. He kept pursuing them.

My grandma always told me you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar. I believe that, too. A tense situation can be defused quickly with kind words. But a tense situation can be transferred to you with just a few words.

Watch what you say. Stay patient and be kind.

Have a great day.
