Crutches

by | Dec 25, 2023 | Dependency, Surrender

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

(John 16:33 ESV)

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape that you may be able to endure it.”

(1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV)

I was watching a Christmas movie last night. The statement, “At times in life, everyone needs a crutch.” I tend to agree. But there are many types of crutches, both physical and emotional.

For years, food was a crutch for me. Whenever I was upset, I turned to food. Whenever something happened, I couldn’t control, I turned to food. I know of people who turned to drugs as a crutch. Drinking, internet, smoking, money. A friend told me anything in your life can be a crutch, as long as you let it control you.

But we don’t have to let it control us. We have help. Jesus is on call 24/7 to help when we need Him. Jesus is just waiting for us to realize that we need His help to get rid of whatever we are using as a crutch. We, as Christians, don’t need a crutch when things go wrong. All we have to do is lean on the strong arms of Jesus. Jesus is the only crutch we need.

According to google, “a crutch is “something you lean on when you’re hurt or weak. It can be a physical crutch you use because you broke your leg or a friend you depend on a bit too much when you’re having a tough time.”

So, I want to encourage you to turn to Jesus instead of whatever you use as a crutch. Lean on the everlasting arms of Jesus.

Have a blessed day, everyone.
